AWSMP Announces 2016 SMIP Awards

The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program (AWSMP) awarded $516,602 in 2016 to support stream management implementation. The Stream Management Implementation Program funds were awarded for projects to complete stream-related infrastructure improvements, community flood mitigation planning, stream and floodplain manager training, and research and monitoring in support of stream management. The most recent awards were reviewed and approved by the AWSMP Stakeholder Council at their November meeting. In 2016, projects were awarded to the Town of Olive, Town of Shandaken, and Ulster County Department of Public Works. A special request for proposals was issued to fund studies that meet priority science needs in the Ashokan Watershed. Priority science need were established by a working group of the AWSMP Stakeholder Council. Awards to complete research and monitoring studies were made to the U.S. Geological Survey, Stantec Consulting Services Inc., and SUNY New Paltz.
