AWSMP Welcomes New Staff

The AWSMP is pleased to announce two new staff positions at the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program (AWSMP). With funding from the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, the AWSMP is now able to expand its outreach and technical assistance within the Ashokan Watershed.

Jennifer Bowman, Watershed Educator

Jennifer Bowman is our new Watershed Educator with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County. Jen will be coordinating the AWSMP’s community education program. Look for new programs geared to engage just about everyone in learning about streams in 2015. You may see Jen around the watershed at various public events. Jen holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Education from Antioch University New England and has held various watershed positions. As an environmental educator, she facilitated national environmental education support programs. Jen is a certified interpretive guide and has taught and organized interactive education programs for audiences of all ages. Jen grew up in the State of Delaware on the family sheep farm. When not at work, Jen loves to spend time traveling and exploring the outdoors, hiking, kayaking, and gardening.

Aaron Bennett, Environmental Planner

Aaron Bennett, Environmental Planner (and sons)

Aaron Bennett was recently named  Environmental Planner with the Ulster County Department of Environment. With support from the AWSMP, he will be working on flood hazard mitigation planning for communities within the NYC Watershed portions of Ulster County. Aaron most recently was Deputy Coordinator with the Ulster County Department of Environment. He’s previously worked with Catskill Mountainkeeper, the Central Catskills Chamber of Commerce, the Catskill Watershed Corporation, and the Catskill Center. Aaron is a lifelong resident of the Catskill Mountains and was raised in the hamlet of Oliverea along the upper Esopus Creek. He attended the Phoenicia Elementary School and Onteora Senior High School, and graduated from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) with a Bachelor’s degree in Water Resource Management in 1997. Aaron is a Certified Floodplain Manager, and a licensed hiking guide.
