The Town of Shandaken is kicking off a project to identify and test the best options for reducing riverine flooding in Phoenicia and Mt. Tremper on September 8 at a Town Board meeting. Shandaken will task the engineering firm Milone & MacBroom, Inc. (MMI) to model alternatives for reducing flooding in the hamlets. On September 8, MMI’s project manager will explain the process for developing projects to the Board. Public meetings are planned in Phoenicia and Mt. Tremper to gather local knowledge of where flooding occurs and ideas for reducing flooding. Later public meetings will share computer modeling results and compare options. The project is funded through a grant from the AWSMP.
