Town of Olive Tackles Flooding

The Town of Olive is seek­ing a qual­i­fied con­sult­ing firm to com­plete local flood analy­sis and devel­op mit­i­ga­tion projects for the ham­lets of Boiceville and West Shokan. The goal is to mod­el and pri­or­i­tize solu­tions that reduce flood ele­va­tion lev­els. Once com­plet­ed, the Town will have the infor­ma­tion need­ed to tap into mul­ti­ple fund­ing sources for imple­ment­ing projects. Olive is receiv­ing assis­tance from AWSMP part­ners to start the project. The Town hopes to select a con­sult­ing firm by Novem­ber. The project will run dur­ing 2015 and includes sev­er­al pub­lic meet­ings with ham­let res­i­dents. Anoth­er goal of the project is to com­plete a town-wide Flood Haz­ard Mit­i­ga­tion Plan that allows Olive to join FEMA’s Com­mu­ni­ty Rat­ing Sys­tem and reduce flood insur­ance pre­mi­ums for town residents.
