How to Read a River Course

The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program is offering a free, two-day field geomorphology training to local stream managers from June 4-5, 2024. A rain date of June 18 is reserved for field work. This training is available to local highway department staff, other town officials, stream management program staff, and natural resource agency staff who cover the Ashokan Reservoir watershed.

Pre-registration is required. The two-day training is designed to improve a stream manager’s ability to “read a river.” There will be one day of classroom-based learning, with the remaining time devoted to model and field-based education. Registrants must commit to attending both days.

The training will be held at Menla Mountain Resort in Phoenicia with field time along the Panther Kill, a tributary to Woodland Creek. Menla is located 375 Pantherkill Road, Phoenicia, NY 12464.

For more information, contact Tim Koch at tk545@cornell.edu.
