Register now for a free two-day training on Post-Flood Emergency Stream Intervention hosted by the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program.
October 11 & 12, 2023 from 8 am-4 pm at the Emerson Resort & Spa in Mt. Tremper.
Designed for contractors and municipal officials and staff, from Town Supervisors to equipment operators, this technical training will prepare towns for the next significant flood event in the Catskills. Training topics include regional precipitation and flooding patterns, basic stream and watershed science, post-flood emergency interventions like channel sizing and debris management, disaster funding sources, emergency permitting, and administrative best practices for reimbursement.
The training will feature stream management and disaster experts from the NYS Dept. of Homeland Security and Emergency Services, NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County, and the Soil & Water Conservation Districts of Ulster and Delaware Counties.
Program Day 1 – Post-Flood Response, Site Prioritization, and Stream Intervention Protocol
Day 1 covers field procedures and technical assistance services and is recommended for all training attendees. All municipal officials, highway department staff, contractors and operators are encouraged to attend.
Program Day 2 – Disaster Funding Sources, Emergency Permitting, and Administrative Best Practices for Reimbursement
We encourage all municipal officials and contractors who administer forms and perform field procedures, and staff involved in preparing funding requests to attend.
Distribute the Program Flyer to contractors and municipal officials who work in the Ashokan Reservoir and neighboring watersheds in the NYC Water Supply Watershed.
Registration is required. The deadline to register is October 4.
