Funding Available for Community Stream Stewardship Projects

The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program is now accepting Stream Management Implementation Program (SMIP) funding applications through June 24, 2022. Eli­gi­ble appli­cants include local, county, state, or fed­eral gov­ern­ment agen­cies, 501©(3) orga­ni­za­tions, sec­ondary school dis­tricts, col­leges or uni­ver­si­ties. For-profit firms or institutions may submit funding applications in the Research, Assessment and Monitoring category only.

A total $700,000 is available for award through June 30, 2023 in the categories of: Planning; Education; Research, Assessment, and Monitoring; Stream-Related Public Infrastructure Improvement; Flood Hazard Mitigation; and Stream Restoration.

Separate funding is available for implementation projects recommended in a completed and town-accepted Local Flood Analysis. Applications are accepted in this category at any time.

Stream Management Funding Available

Government agencies, non-profit organizations, schools, and universities may now apply to the Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program (AWSMP) for stream management grants through March 9, 2022. 

Grant categories include education, research, planning, infrastructure improvement, and stream restoration. Projects must be located in the Ashokan Reservoir watershed. Funding for the Stream Management Implementation Program is provided by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection and administered by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County. The Ulster County Soil and Water Conservation District provides technical assistance.

SMIP Grant Funding Available

The AWSMP is now accepting applications for Stream Management Implementation Program (SMIP) grant funding. The deadline for submission of applications is Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

Eligible applicants include local, county, state, or federal government agencies, 501©(3) organizations, secondary school districts, colleges or universities. For-profit firms or institutions may submit funding applications in the Research, Assessment and Monitoring category only.

The AWSMP funds stream stewardship projects in the following categories: Planning; Education; Research, Assessment and Monitoring (see priority research needs); Stream-Related Public Infrastructure Improvements (see project eligibility guidance); Flood Hazard Mitigation; and Stream Restoration.

Funding applications for projects recommended in a Local Flood Analysis plan may be submitted at any time.

Stream Project Funding Available

The Ashokan Watershed Stream Management Program announces the availability of funding to implement stream stewardship projects in the Ashokan Watershed. Funding is available for stream restoration, stream-related infrastructure improvement, planning, flood hazard mitigation, research and monitoring, and education projects. Priority will be given to projects recommended in the AWSMP Action Plan and stream management plans for the watershed. Eligible applicants include municipalities, non-profit organizations, school districts, and academic institutions. For-profit firms are eligible to apply in the research and monitoring category and for a special Request for Proposals to deliver a HEC-RAS Training Workshop for Culverts & Bridges. Awards will be distributed on a rolling basis until the fund is depleted. A special limitation is that all projects must be completed by August 30, 2019. Approximately $150,000 is available for award. Applications will be reviewed by the AWSMP Stakeholder Council on a monthly basis. Awards will be announced on April 26, 2019 for applications submitted by April 12, 2019.
